There are many reasons why your loved one may have been referred to hospice care. They could have had a nasty fall or a sudden change in their condition or symptoms. Regardless, you are now talking to Orange Hospice.
You could also have called us, and you are now happy that someone on the other end is ready to guide you through getting extra support for your loved one. Whether you are feeling relieved, reluctant, or a mix of emotions, all those feelings are normal.

Getting Through The Hospice Care Paperwork
Like most major decisions, there is a lot of paperwork. The documents help us gather crucial details to formulate a personalized care plan for your loved one. Paperwork is not fun, but protecting your loved one and ensuring their wishes are met is necessary. Our team will review all the details with you so you can make an informed choice.

Schedule A Care ConsultThe Beginning Of Hospice Care
Your first day in hospice care will be quite busy. There are documents to be signed, orders for medical equipment and medication to be placed, and checks to see the patient’s condition and whether the patient has any wounds. We will also see what ADLs (activities of daily living) the patient needs assistance with, any symptom/medication management instructions with the patient and caregiver, and the visiting frequency of your nurses, bath aides, and other team members.
Several members of our team will also visit you. They will introduce themselves and ensure the comfort of your loved one.
Within five days, a social worker and a spiritual counselor will schedule and make a visit to assess the patient and family for any needs and set a visit frequency if needed. The volunteer coordinator will also reach out to offer volunteer services within five days. Patients and families should expect to get a lot of information, phone calls from different team members, and deliveries in the first few days of hospice care.
It may seem overwhelming, but it is essential to set up your loved one with everything they need. Since hospice care is fully covered by insurance, there is no upfront cost for the family.
At Orange Hospice, we offer evening care and will call to check on how your loved one is doing. We will answer all your questions to help you find peace.
