At Orange Hospice, we understand all too well how complex caregiving can be. There are ongoing demands that can put a strain even on the most resilient caregivers. We give primary caregivers much-needed rest through inpatient care at facilities or short term volunteer support.
Inpatient Facility Respite Care
Respite care offers short-term relief to caregivers so you can rest and regroup. Orange Hospice can coordinate a brief stay at a skilled nursing facility, nursing home, assisted living community, or hospital while your loved one continues to receive compassionate care. Learn more on our Services page.
Medicare coverage: Medicare covers inpatient respite care in a nursing home or long-term care facility for up to five days per benefit period. It is used occasionally when the primary caregiver needs a break. Room and board during the approved respite stay are covered, and a small coinsurance may apply. See our guide: How to Qualify for Respite Care.

Volunteer Support: Giving Families the Gift of Time
Hospice volunteers play a vital role in supporting both patients and their families. By giving just a few hours each week, volunteers offer families the chance to rest, attend appointments, run errands, or simply take a moment to recharge. Many also provide companionship for patients through conversation, reading, or quiet presence.
In some cases, volunteers lend an extra helping hand with light housekeeping, meal preparation, or errands small gestures that can make a meaningful difference in easing the family’s daily load. Every hour shared by a volunteer brings comfort, relief, and a reminder that families are not alone in their journey.
Some of the benefits of respite care are:
- Increased energy for caregivers
- A time to focus on self-care
- Get a positive outlook
- Strengthen social bonds with family
- Reduced stress
At the facility, their staff will ensure that patients have access to comprehensive, round-the-clock support from an experienced care team in addition to the routine care provided by Orange Hospice. The facility also oversees medication management to address the unique medical needs of each patient. Along with their clinical care, they offer three nutritious meals and snacks daily, along with engaging activities designed to enhance the well-being and quality of life of those we serve.
